I have had recurring problems with the Taco 557-2 control valve. Leaking past the O rings, incompetence of the seating in the closed position. Failure of the solonoid in the Activated position (open) and failure to open. I now routinely keep a back up of all moving parts available.

This part is somewhat of a one of a kind used only (I think) on open loop geothermal systems. The original lasted 7.5 years so I ordered an extra for a spare when the replacement inevitably goes bad. I only discovered the old one had failed after running a month on AUX heat which was very expensive. Now the thermostat is fixed so the warning light comes on in this failure condition (bad on you initial install contractor!)
