We purchased sliding barn door hardware from another manufacturer a couple years ago but at that time they did not make them with the ability to add the soft close feature. We saw this on a friend's door recently and feel in love with this feature. We had to find something that would fit our existing hardware and this worked perfectly! It was easy to install although there aren't detailed directions, just some pictures.

The instructions included were less than helpful. I call tech support at RealSlidingHardware and was emailed some specs that were equally useless. I had to figure it out through trial and error, but eventually got it installed, and it seems to work fine. For what they charge for this simple piece of plastic, they should invest in making some clear installation instructions.

I recently fitted the Soft Stop on a sliding barn door that was previously installed in our home. The components of the Soft Stop have worked very well and they have transformed the operation of the sliding door. Now we can just slide the door close to one end or the other and the Soft Stop gently completes the travel of the door and holds it there. The installation was somewhat difficult in that there were no real instructions included with the components and the door install had been done without consideration of the Soft Stop components. The gap between the door and the rail was large and required some shimming of the door tab and I had to position the Soft Stop lower than desired. The hardest part of the install is drilling the rail. With all that said, the installation and the operation is fairly straightforward. It's only been about a month, so we'll see if the components are durable over the next years. But bottom line, I wouldn't have a barn door now without a Soft Stop!

As with everything I have bought from REAL… I am so so impressed with the quality and service. Truly spectacular. This product while not made by them is well selected and works perfectly. My only qualm is that the instructions could use illustrations. I had to wrap my head around the workings of the product in order to be sure not to drill unnecessary and possibly ugly extra holes. A simple illustration pointing to holes and things to watch out for would have been much appreciated. But product quality: Brilliant.

The soft stop is awesome! I was able to make it work with a less than 2" wide track. In order to do so, I had to lower the stop below the track - otherwise, the roller/wheel could not pass. This led to an issue of not being able to install an anti-jump pad. However, the door is large and heavy, and now that the door closes so softly, I am not so concerned with it jumping track. BTW, I spray painted the soft close mechanism black, so it matched the track.
