But soon enough, the inevitable happened: Friends wanted a rope hammock as good as the one he’d made for himself, and then it was friends of friends, and then folks Cap’n Josh didn’t know at all. In no time, family members were pitching in to help him meet the increasing demand. Jump forward just a few decades, and the Original Pawleys Island Rope Hammock had already become the standard by which other rope hammocks were being measured. Today, we get machine assistance with a few production processes, such as rope-making and woodcutting, to capture the precision required. At Pawleys Island, we don’t view the human part of the process merely as important; we regard it as essential. Handcrafting is who we are.

when I bought the hammock, my plan was to put in 2 posts in order to hang the hammock instead of buying the stand. after thinking about it, I decided to buy the stand instead. It allows me to move the hammock around if I want to and where I live has sandy soil which is not too stable (even with concrete).

The function is great. It arrives with multiple scratches. The stand was not wrapped when packaged for shipping and the box was smashed. Could have use something to support it in the box. Disappointed.

This is the American made stand that Pawleys sells and it is worth every dime. Heavier than the cheaper on on Amazon, more durable, and yet is easily taken apart (depress two buttons) for storage over the winter. It is made with carbon steel and I would not leave it outside during the winter if you live where it rains. With reasonable care, it will last a lifetime.
