Cap’n Josh, as he was known, was really only seeking a cool, comfortable, stable night’s sleep onboard his boat; he never set out to be in the hammock business! But soon enough, the inevitable happened: Friends wanted a rope hammock as good as the one he’d made for himself, and then it was friends of friends, and then folks Cap’n Josh didn’t know at all. In no time, family members were pitching in to help him meet the increasing demand. Jump forward just a few decades, and the Original Pawleys Island Rope Hammock had already become the standard by which other rope hammocks were being measured. Today, we get machine assistance with a few production processes, such as rope-making and woodcutting, to capture the precision required. At Pawleys Island, we don’t view the human part of the process merely as important; we regard it as essential. Handcrafting is who we are.

Excellent stand, but after a few rains, a little rust formed around one of the spring-loaded “button” fasteners. I sprayed a tiny amount of WD-40 around each to help prevent further rust. Not a big deal.

about 18 years ago, a friend gave me a Pawley island hammock and stand. Since I live in a very wet climate, parts of the poles had gotten a bit rusty. So, I ordered a new stand. It was delivered quickly, and there were no problems with it.

The photos were very descriptive, so I was able to quickly find the hammock stand that I liked. It was very easy to assemble. I now have a hammock stand for another 18 years, at least.

The frame is very nice and sturdy. I can’t compare it to another as this is the only one we have. Pleased with the color too.

We have always purchased the PawleyIsland hammocks, however, never the stand. I knew we could count on the quality. 2nd pole had to be hammered in and did not slide in easily like the other end. We wonder how we are going to get it apart! Otherwise, it should be good.
