The Machine was quiet and seemed to be efficient. Then it stopped sometime after 20 months with a compressor failure. The machine is made in China but there are no US designated repair facilities. The compressor became very hot to the touch but no cooling occurred. With no repair option the only choice is to buy a new dehumidifier but, for-sure, it will not be a NewAir product. Hopefully the next machine will be made in the USA with the option to have it fixed if the need arises. This is an awful lot of money for a throw-away household appliance.

The product is working well...looks good and I recommend the product to other potential buyers. Some issues - bucket capacity is a little too small so I hooked up a drain line on two units. One works great and the other one has leaked on me a few times. (Its possible gravity is working against me because the floor is not level. After a few tweaks, the jury is still out. Wish it wasn't that sensitive however,,the floor isn't THAT uneven)

I purchased this dehumidifier model in December 2009 my first one based on the reviews. It was quiet and no problems for two years then I knock it over on the carpet and had some problems. Purchased the same model in January 2012. My first one was quieter and would give it 5 stars. The second one I would give 4 stars because it is not as quiet. My only real issue is when the first one arrived it had a crack around one wheel. Reported it to Air-N-Water and they replaced it including shipping. Almost a year has passed since I purchased the second one. I was on vacation before Christmas and had it turned off. When I returned home I wiped it off and turned it on its side and discovered a crack in the bottom plastic plate. I never bothered to examine the bottom of the one I purchased in January 2012 and don't know if I have any recourse after almost a year. I would say to a purchaser examine the product after receipt of the dehumidifier because after receiving 2 dehumidifiers with cracks in the bottom the product is being mishandled by whoever is sending it or it is damaged during shipping. I work in a warehouse and see product mishandled but I see the way UPS handles merchandise and it is likely the cracks happened this way. Air-N-Water did make good on my first purchase and I give them 5 stars for that. On a side note after a year of sitting on the sidelines I plugged in #1 and tried for a few days without a hitch.

While I loved the compact design and low noise of the ad-400 compared to the other dehumidifiers I've owned, I couldn't believe how small the water tank was. The water tank was poorly designed, difficult to remove and when full the water splashes out because it fills up right to the top, making it difficult to carry to the sink. It was advertised as a 40 pint dehumidifier but after reading the small print it is "up to 40 pints a day" not 40 pint size tank. Even though I have used it for three days non-stop the humidity remains between 64-68, not good considering it is being used in a small sitting room. My old machine had the humidity down to 40 in a relatively short amount of time. Since I just received it, I am considering returning it.

My AD-400 is great. Extremely quiet and dries the room perfectly. Installed in garage, it can be 99% humid outside and 40% inside. Would highly recommend.

The good: It's attractive, easy to use (even though it doesn't work well!), and the noise level is reasonable, though still louder than I expected and louder than my old Soleus.

Super quite, effectively decrease my room humidity from 56% to 46 in one day. Easy to use and set up. I may buy one more unit for other room

Overall I'm really satisfied with this dehumidifier. It has been removing lots of moisture , very quiet and extremely easy to use. I'm using it in a basement that is very damp, and it has really improved the air.
