Let me tell you, there are people that THINK they know Ford Cosworth YBs, people that know Ford
Cosworth YBs but very few people that REALLY know Ford Cosworth YBs. Motorsports Developments fits firmly into the latter category.
Since 2005, when I first took my Sierra RS500 Cosworth to MSD, I have been a customer and keen exponent of these guys fo
r many reasons.
The products and services offered by MSD are properly developed and properly tested on all sorts of vehicles from turbo-diesel repmobiles to tarmac-tearing track monsters. The workshop is staffed by knowledgeable guys who clearly take pride in their workmanship. The depth of knowledge, coupled with levels of service and support are absolutely second-to-none.
Where MSD really made the difference with my car was in the mapping of the ECU. Let's be clear, they are no fly-by-night chip-n-pray outfit. The expertise and know-how at MSD goes right to the very fundamentals of ECU technology and operation, meaning no guesswork, just very solidly founded diagnosis, programming and implementation. There are VERY FEW tuning companies that can genuinely claim this. Furthermore, the knowledge is backed up with easy-to-understand, no-bull explanations of their analysis. There's no smoke and mirrors at MSD.
The end result was that my immaculate 25,000 mile 18-year-old car ran better than it had ever done in its life by a country mile. Better idle, pulling cleaner and harder right through the rev range. It made a car that was very fussy and recalcitrant at low speed into a car with much better and much more accessible performance. The fuel consumption also reduced significantly.
It is absolutely no coincidence whatsoever that a great deal of the UKs high value, high power Cosworths travel the length and breadth of the country to be attended to by MSD.
I might add that I have no affiliation with MSD other than I am an extremely happy customer and would not hesitate to recommend Motorsport Developments to anyone looking for advice on getting the best from their vehicle, be that performance, economy or reliability
