The drill guide works well except that the inside diameter is larger than .500 by about .060 to .070 which can be an issue if you do not get the drill started exactly in the center. Worked great on 2 hole and 3 hole shelfs, but 4 or 5 hole shelfs had tolerance issues and very tight fits.

While I intend to use these for an different purpose than what they were designed for, I'm hoping that they'll hold up to my planned use. While I will be using them as a drill guide, I'll be assemblying all 5 of them into a single template for drilling straight holes (hopefully!!!) into an 18" thick triple wythe brick wall for mounting a 36" dia., 225 lb. double faced bracket clock on an exterior wall. Since I haven't used them yet I can't say whether or not these floating shelf drill guides were a good buy or not.

My only complaint is that the drill guides are a poor substitute for a drill press. They worked, and my shelves are on the wall, but the mounting holes are not quite as straight as I hoped.

I am really surprised on how well built this drill guide is. I am use to seeing them made out of plastic, but this guy is solid metal and could probably handle well over 100 drilling’s and still look new. If you are going to make your own custom floating shelf’s and do not have a drill press, then this tool is a must have.
