A few years back, Mr. P., as we affectionately call the founder of our little Greenville, N.C., company, was traveling along the coast of his beloved Brazil when he spied something intriguing in one of the local markets there: Wide-brimmed hats handcrafted out of wonderfully weathered old cotton canvas, with heavy stitching, shifts in color, fraying, stains, rips, punctures, patches and even occasional ink marks. Mr. P. immediately began inquiring about the unusual hats, learning that their material was actually old canvas tarps discarded by Brazilian trucking companies after lengthy use as protection for freight. A romantic in the broadest sense of the word, Mr. P. was instantly as hooked by the story as he had been by the hats themselves.

I love this hat! Fits and feels great and looks even better. I always get compliments when I wear it and I had 2 friends order one since I purchased mine. Shipping took about 3 days so easy transaction and well worth the investment. This hat will last longer than me.

The pairing of the two products, Original and C.L., is a great deal. I wear the C.L. daily and am appreciative of the robust nature. It feels good and wears easily. The material is firm but not in a bad way. The Original is my, "Working/Hanging Out" hat. Good coverage and the wire in the brim makes shaping it easy.

I wear this hat daily. It is a solid performer, if a little warm on 100+ degree days because the grommets don't vent as much as I thought they would. I did remove a couple of the non functional patches that were on it as they created strange "hot spots" on my head. The brim stands out 2-1/4", shorter than a standard ball cap, and works well when pulled down over sunglasses. As to sizing, I wear a 7-3/4 fitted hat size and the XL is on the large side, the Velcro adjustment takes up the slack easily, but does leave a tab off of the end. I would opt for the large if I ever need to order another as the "pucker" in the back isn't to my liking. All of my minor critiques aside, it looks good, fits good, feels good, is good. I would best describe it as honest. It's a hard wearing hat that doesn't care if you get grease, oil, dirt, paint, mill scale, sparks, or mud on it. I'm working on wearing this one out and if I do, I'll post another review with how long it took and what eventually did it.

This is my summer outdoors activities hat and I really enjoy it. I wear a 7-3/4 fitted hat size and the XL fits to the airy side. I like the extra space as it allows for movement on the head like a heliostat. I fitted a chinstrap made from a leather bootlace I had lying around and it works a trick to keep it from blowing off in the wind. I have a Cuba Libre as well and there is a weight difference in the fabric between the two with this one being lighter, but your mileage may vary. I have removed the non-functional patches on it as they added a weird twist in the brim that I couldn't get to even out, but that was no big deal, 20 minutes and a seam ripper had me squared away. I've worn this in the wind, rain, 100+ temps, and I have yet to find any issues. Wet the thing down and you have your own private evaporative cooler, just make sure if you're on a boat you've got a good hold of it cuz they sink like rocks. If I ever need another, I'll get the exact same thing.

The quality of the product is excellent, I just wish that they would make one size bigger. It fits me, but I would like it to be more roomy.

I have bought 4 hats, lost one, hiking. and yes have dove into the water a handful of times to save mine when boating. I have the wallet, and love it. have on order another wallet, and the organizer. excellent product. I sewed on a leather band around the rim of one of mine and that is the finishing touch, to make the hat stand out.

This hat is all claims to be I live up in the mountains so for hiking and kayaking and fishing it's brilliant and I love the fact that I don't have to worry about ruining the hat in any weather or any condition even when it fell into the mud LOL

Wish I had this hat when I was a kid. You can't mess it up no matter what you do it holds up in every weather and surprisingly in the hot sun it still keeps your head cool even without mesh.Right On!!!!
