But soon enough, the inevitable happened: Friends wanted a rope hammock as good as the one he’d made for himself, and then it was friends of friends, and then folks Cap’n Josh didn’t know at all. In no time, family members were pitching in to help him meet the increasing demand. Jump forward just a few decades, and the Original Pawleys Island Rope Hammock had already become the standard by which other rope hammocks were being measured. Today, we get machine assistance with a few production processes, such as rope-making and woodcutting, to capture the precision required. At Pawleys Island, we don’t view the human part of the process merely as important; we regard it as essential. Handcrafting is who we are.

I received my Pawleys island hammock promptly and as described. It looks very well made and sturdy. Unfortunately I didn't have much time to experience it since the weather turned colder soon after I received it. Looking forward to spending a lot of time in it though when next spring arrives. Love that it's made here in the USA!

I ordered two hammocks for my daughter as a housewarming gift for a new vacation home. They came to her in two shipments and I was afraid one had been lost when she received only one. But the other finally arrived just as they were leaving with friends for the vacation home, and they were delighted with them.

Every time I had to go back and change something ·(e.g., I decided to add an additional hammock to my order) everything had to be re-entered that I had just filled out...frustrating!

Everyone loves the new hammock bed! We are located on Cape Cod and it’s perfect for catching the prevailing southwest breeze. Our old bed was @20 years old. I’ll report back in 20 years!

I had one Pawleys island rope hammock since 2010, it worked great and kids had a lot of fun. Finally, it wore out a few years ago. I bought a exact one from Home depot and it didn't last well this time. Ropes were worn out at the the bar. We still like the hammock but may give the polyester version a try.

I used to rock my girls to sleep on mine when they were 10 and 6. Now they are 30 and 26, and my oldest is rocking my granddaughter to sleep on the same hammock. Cotton cord is finally worn out, and will be buying a duplicate to replace it. You will be very pleased with the quality of this product!!

We bought our hammock (note: not directly from this site, but it is genuine from another vendor who no longer sells this item) three summers ago, and although we've had it out every summer and stored each winter, I only get time to relax in it maybe a half dozen times each summer. Being home more this summer, I've sat/laid in it more often to enjoy our outdoor space, and about 2 weeks ago, I noticed that the ropes were beginning to fray lightly. Then, a week ago, one of the ropes snapped. It didn't take long for an ENTIRE SIDE to follow, leaving me flat on my back, on the ground. While I know things aren't made to truly last forever, I specifically sought out a Pawley's Island hammock for its craftsmanship and durability. Three summers is not durable in my opinion. Just keep in mind that you may need to replace your hammock sooner than you thought!

I have had this hammock for 30 years! THIRTY! The secret is to bring it in every night. I hang it in my garage at night, and on days I'm away and won't be using it. I love it!
