I use the gold pins for cables that may be used outdoors. They will not corrode as easily as the nickel pins. My favorite application is on our audio snake that is often used to cover rainy soccer and football games. Even if the cable is dragged across a wet field, the pins dry clean and last longer then the standard nickel.

I like that you can access the wiring quickly to determine a broken wire or miss wire. I do a lot of cable repair and find these great to work with.
