Cable has very useful characteristics like low resistance, low inductance and reasonable capacitance when used in 2+2 mode. It is also very flexible for its diameter and easy to terminate. To get something similar made from more exotic materials would sell for more than 10x the price with marginal improvement. Long runs up to 20ft are possible.
