I really really really like Islander's modified Seiko SKX013's. Few years ago, I found the one with a blue face and a ceramic blue and red bezel. Got it and really enjoyed it. Put different straps on it. When I got a black rubber diver strap, I thought hey this strap would go great on an all-black SKX013. Saw this one on sale and got it too. I think Long Island Watch Company did an EXCELLENT job modifying the SKX013. If I won the lottery or randomly came across more money, I'd collect a few more of these.

Love the watch. The 38mm case size is perfect for my small wrist. I put the black rubber strap on for the Summer (kayaking, swimming, camping); and plan on wearing the steel bracelet for the Winter. Glad I purchased the 20mm rubber strap. However, the steel bracelet is impossible to get back on the watch. Still trying to figure that out. I will definitely buy more watches from Mark and his company Long Island Watches. Such great value!

I needed a 12 hr bezel watch for quick-view dual time lookup--I don't like the 24-hr GMT options. So where to find: highly waterproof case, bright lume (even on the bezel), high-contrast easy to read hands, durable sapphire/ceramic face, moderate price, reliable automatic movement? Islander ISL-20 checked all the boxes. The solid link bracelet is an added plus but I wear the watch with a leather strap instead--bracelets get scratched and clang on my desk. One other thing: I never liked Day/Date complications--too much reset aggravation--but really useful at nighttime overseas.

I'm in love with this watch. Build is solid. The rotating bezel is very useful to track a 2nd time zone. Lume is strong. 38mm size is perfect for my small wrists.

This ISL-20 is the fourth Long Island watch I've purchased, the others being the ISL-54, ISL-36 and ISL-38. It is also the first one I'm not 100% satisfied with. While the case, new "lighthouse" deeply carved caseback (beautiful), sapphire crystal and bracelet are all of excellent quality for this price point, the movement is at the hairy edge of accuracy for a Seiko NH36, losing 18-28 seconds a day, depending on how I lay it down at night. That is probably fixable to a degree by having the watch regulated, which it obviously never was. But it is disapponting. The second rough edge is literally that: The ceramic bezel is not protected by an inner guard ring, the watch crystal sits below the level of the bezel and the chamfered edge of the crystal pulls it back from the bezel. This causes the ceramic bezel insert to overhang the crystal, leaving a significant gap between the two that debris can easily get into. In addition, the bezel feels sharp and will "catch" on a finger or fingernail if run acriss the watch face. I suspect the brittle bezel insert could be pulled off or broken if snagged on a the right surface or fabric. The fix might be to reduce the crystal chamfer or raise the crystal to close the gap. Either way, it's an annoying trait at the moment. I selected the 38mm size as a trial return to a smaller sport watch size. I have plenty of 41-45 mm sport watches. The 38mm size is comfortable and wears a bit larger due to the case thickness, which does not shrink with diameter between the ISL-01 (43mm) and ISL-20 (38mm). The bracelet is easy to size due to the screw pin links and I'm enjoying the watch despite the minor flaws above. At some point down the road I'll have it regulated to try and hit +/- 10 seconds per day accuracy, which my other Seiko NH35/36, 4R35/36 movements seem to achieve.

I always wanted to try the SKX013 but at the current prices, it's just not worth it. I found Islander watches and became obsessed. Watched the videos, read the revews... So I decided to purchase one. I'm not from the US, I'm from Costa Rica, so I took advantage of a work trip to the US to buy it and save on shipping and taxes. Wanted to try out these 38mm size divers, since my wrist size is 6.5" and I think it's the only budget option available and the specs looks too good to be true. And the are! Overall the specs deliver and it's a good quality watch for the price. Almost perfect, but close enough! My main gripe is with the bezel movement. It's too stiff and mushy. For me to turn in I really have to grab it and turn with force, and even then it doesn't turn all the way, so it takes several hard turns to use it and put it back in place. I thought it would loosen up after a few days, but it still is very stiff and at the point where it's not enjoyable and I honestly don't try to use it anymore. Not sure if it's just mine, but I've seen/read some reviews that also complain about the mushiness. Hope other models don't have this problem. This last thing is just personal note/taste. I liked the idea of the dual time bezel, that's why I opted for the ISL-20. Design-wize there are some things that don't help with legibility and I read a couple of reviews that also mention this and I agree. "The bevelled edge of the flat sapphire crystal which exaggerates the reflection of the hour markers on the dial". This makes the dial look too busy and cramped. Seems the dial markers are the same size as the 42mm, so they are not sized proportionally, but this is just personal taste. The bracelet is very good and comfortable, but I didn't like how it goes with the dial size and color, so I am using it on a rubber strap or a nato strap some times. Lume is awesome!
