Response from himalayanbowls.com:

Thanks for your feedback. I'm glad you like the bowl. You are correct the sound is in between D and D#. The bowls are not tuned and are usually sharp or flat of perfect tuning. When bowls are in between notes (like yours is in between D and D#), I assign them the nearest note, which in this case I judged to be closer to D. If the exact pitch is important to you, you should use my sound recordings with a tuner or piano to get the most accurate read. The bowls make so many tones, they're not necessarily in tune with any standard tuning.
Many people have asked over the years for recordings around the rim but I don't offer it for a few reasons, mainly because my recordings are more transparent and accurate. When played around the rim, it's difficult to get a true representation - you can get a wide variety of tones and effects.  My recordings are meant to convey the most accurate tone possible, so you can hear the exact pitch, volume and duration. If you listen with headphones, you will hear the full tonal spectrum including the fundamental tone and all the harmonic overtones. The volume is kept consistent so you can hear the difference from bowl to bowl. I also let the tone fade naturally so you get an accurate sense of how long the tone will ring. So, you get an accurate sample of the multiple pitches, volume and length of tone. I've been doing it this way since the year 2000 and I hope you agree the sounds are very accurate when compared to the bowl in person. Thanks again for your support. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Thanks, Joseph

“Seems like a quality bowl. No complaints. The note it sings is D# pretty consistently not D. I would say hearing it sing not just rung like a bell would be a nice feature on the website in the future.”

“Very good experience so far. I am hoping to receive the bowl on Thursday July 26.”
