The course was easy to purchase and a real delight to use. I had played violin from 5th grade through high school and I learned more understandable music theory in the last 6 months with these bass lessons than in those years combined. The lessons were very fun to play along with and scaled well. I was rarely frustrated. I ended up not really vibing with the slap techniques but I expect to return for them once I've worked on the things that I'm excited to polish now that I've done everything else. I felt like I should have taken more advantage of the play along tracks and 50 first songs so I'm spending time with those now.

I had watched some of Josh's youtube videos and liked the content and sense of humor. I had just bought a bass and was happy to find a better approach than just buying a book and winging it, which I did with the cello for a few years.

This course got me to a level of confidence where I was able to start private lessons and get a lot of praise on the quality of my fundamentals and how far along I was for having only played about 4 months altogether. I would definitely recommend this course, Josh is a great teacher!

Excellent course and tutor. I am 72 and I have never played guitar. I have found the whole thing supportive and encouraging. I just want to be able to play along using tabs, but I am already into improvising. I started just for fun and fun I am having.

I was searching a good bass course from where I could learn the basics and I ended up buying "Begginer to badass" because I found Josh's youtube channel along with other bass channels, but for me Josh was the best teacher, he explains things in a very simple way, easy to understand and in a short amount of time, he has a good sense of humor also.

I think this is a very good class and a great opportunity to start playing bass from scratch.
I was, technique-wise, an intermediate player before starting the course, so I had to skip some modules to get where I belong.

However, when I found my personal starting point, the classes are really help- and joyful.
I think it is a good tempo to learn, the structure is pretty clear and all the little comments etc in addition to the mayor lessons are very neat.

I'd say it is a 9/10 in total (and totally and definitely worth the course-fee without hesitation!)

Why is there a point missing, you might ask?
During the course there were 1 or 2 things that bugged me just a little.
Since I started as an intermediate player (fingering, technique etc), who basically lacks any theoretical knowledge, doesnt know about shapes, scales and all the other assets, I didn't always go through all the slow and intermediate workouts. Just at half of the course I discovered that Josh drops some knowledge in these slow and intermediate workouts as well. I think it would be better to ether put them in the "class-part" or in the last "fast workout", since these will be de vids that everyone watches for sure.

The (only) other thing that I would do a little different, was the summary at the end of each module.
Or... actually I would leave that at it is, but in the end of everything provide a big wrap-up of everything learned (mention every pattern, scale etc with just a short example, every trick of finding a note, staying in tune, slappin and pulling the strings etc) in a video that might be 20 or even 30 or so minutes long. That would be great to refresh one's memory after completion of the course and way easier to find.

I've loved learning with bass buzz! I'm a drummer by trade and stumbled across the youtube channel one day. Got me thinking about picking up the bass. Next thing I know i've bought the beginner to badass lessons and it's helped so much.

4 months in and i've already bought 5 bass guitars! Do you do a Bass Buyers Anonymous program? I think I'm addicted :)

Hi there,

I stumbled over this course via the r/bass subreddit. Having tried other 'beginner courses' I never was fully satisfied (as they were either too basic or too advanced) until I bought the 'Beginner to Badass' program. The program answered questions I never knew I had. Additionally I like(d) the bite-sized lessons and that I always knew what I could do next.

Sometimes some of the lessons where quite a spike in difficulty, however skipping and revisiting them later worked.

I am having fun while learning to play. I enjoy the self-paced learning and the ability to go back and review previous lessons. Everything you learn in the module leads up to the final lesson of the module which is a song that Jeff picks that goes with the module.

I took in-person lessons for seven months before starting this class (plus, I played numerous instruments growing up), so I initially found this class to be very basic. But now I am quite challenged -- especially in the theory department. Joss is very good at explaining even complex issues, and I appreciate his sense of humor (as well as the fun band t-shirts). Months after starting the course, I am only halfway done, and I'm guessing when I AM finally finished, I'll want to repeat plenty of lessons. I think the course is a good value, and I'm enjoying it immensely. As far as "crushing it"... Hmmmm. I'm probably not going to be auditioning for any bands in the near future, but I know more than I did before starting the course.

I'm brand new to the bass guitar (and never played any string instrument before). I really like how the lessons are broken up into short videos, and each video focuses on learning a specific skill and then practicing the skill. I appreciate Bass Buzz's overall "bite sized" approach to giving bass lessons. I never found myself overwhelmed with too much information, but progress is very steady by introducing concepts at the right time. I think the overall approach gives the fastest possible progress for the amount of work put in.

I chose Bass Buzz primarily because it allowed me to progress lessons self-paced for a fixed price. I think some competing sites offer a monthly subscription price, but for me this doesn't work well due to my limited time I can spend. I like the buy and consume at my own rate approach the best.

I'm not a newby playing bass guitar and it's getting hard to reach the modules where that correspond to my current level.

Anyway, I'm doing all the modules and lessons since sometimes I can find something useful.

Picked up bass with no real direction. Watched a number of public videos on basics. Bassbuzz felt the most accessible.

I'm currently in module 8. So far the course has been very informative and entertaining. I have learned a lot since I first picked up the instrument and started my journey. I started with zero knowledge of bass. But currently I can go jam with my brother when he picks up his guitar. Nothing fancy but I can outline his notes well enough. I look forward to what skill I will garner as I get to module 16. So grateful for all the knowledge imparted through this course.
