Initially I was satisfied with my experience. The website is well designed and easy to use. It offers good explanations and great prices.The problems came later.
I placed my order on Friday, August 7. The following Tuesday, August 11, I received an unsolicited email from someone claiming to be the General Manager with a recunlimited.com email address asking me for a photograph of my ID and my credit card in order to verify the order. This raised a red flag. I called Basketball Goal Store to see if the email was legitimate. The woman I spoke to was kind and assured me that her boss had indeed sent the email. It turns out that basketballgoalstore.com and recunlimited are the same company. I was told that the problem was due to different billing and shipping addresses. This happened because I bought the basketball goal for my nephew and wanted to have it shipped to him. In order to prevent fraud, I was required to send a picture of my ID and my credit card to the manager. I don't know why I couldn't have verified my identity over the phone. Email verification was problematic for me, since sending this kind of personal information via email is a terrible idea. However, there seemed to be no way around it and the manager was not available to talk to. I went ahead and sent the information to the manager after having covered up the bulk of the sensitive information.
Then I waited. A week later, on August 17, I called back to ask about the status of my order. I was told that the manager was busy and that the order was still waiting on her approval. The woman on the phone told me she would check on it and call me back. She never did. The next day, August 18, I called again and asked to speak with the manager to check on the status of my order. The same thing happened. I was told that the manager was busy and that she would call me back with the status of my order. She never did.
After this I decided to try emailing the manager again. I sent an email to the manager on August 18 (after business hours) expressing my concerns about the customer service and wondering about the status of my order. The next day, I received a one sentence reply letting me know that the order had been placed. There was no apology and no explanation for why I had not been contacted sooner.
Let me be clear, the basketball goal itself is great. The price was great. But dealing with the General Manager and the customer service department was beyond frustrating. I had planned to order a basketball goal for myself from this store, but after having been treated with such disrespect, I will take my business elsewhere.
