This book is a great introduction into the Rust language. It shines by using real world examples of tools that Rust was built for: Systems programming.

A good introduction to the rust language, going even outside and taking time to break down some systems programming concepts for readers that are not too experienced with it. The PDF is much easier to read than the epub. In the latter, the code examples are a bit dryly formatted.

The explanations in the book are well written and easy to understand but they are lacking in depth. The book makes better job at demonstrating some practical programming rather than at teaching me the Rust language. As an example, the most important, signature (and arguably the hardest to understand) part of the language - the borrow checker - is explained in only a handful of pages, like any other "benign" concept. There is a page with definitions of every smart pointer type but only a few of them are used in the examples. The explanations are insufficient. Another example: there is a whole page of time-related definitions like "Steady clock" or "Fast clock" which actually are not used in the provided example project. Surely nice to know things but how do they help me learn Rust? I also have a felling that the book was intentionally bloated by repeating almost identical install/build instructions and code blocks.

It's a great book not only as an initiation to Rust, but also to low level concepts that add a lot of value no matter what kind of programming languages you fancy

GOod book with practical examples!

I learned a lot, not only about Rust, but also about memory, network, how some data is stored in memory in terms of bits and bytes, and lots of other things. Also, not only did the author explain how borrowing works, but he also gave several strategies how to structure programs to overcome difficulties while working with this difficult topic. There are several typos in the PDF version and based on what I heard, Manning doesn’t have any plans yet on fixing them. The PDF formatting is actually very nice, I like its fonts and styles. It’s easy to read on 10inch tablet.

Good book for learning the language. Just has too many errors to get more than three stars. The erratum for this book is huge.

Good book showing some practical use cases as it takes you through learning the Rust language. Some examples and 'background' explanations are a lot of 'skip forward' because they assume that this is the first language you are learning. I don't think many people are coming to Rust not knowing binary, or how bytes work, or even endian. Certainly not something to put a lot of content towards when you have a lot of just Rust to get into your brain. The other bad part, is like many language tutorials now, they spend a lot of time showing you the wrong way, and non-working solutions as they lead you to a working solution. The problem I find is that you start off getting all these 'bad' examples in your brain. This is even worse when reading on an e-reader and you don't find out for a few pages that all this stuff you just put into your brain is ALL WRONG. It's overall a good amount of up to date content and a good book to add to your collection of learning Rust. If you're a seasoned programmer you might find it frustrating at times.

No reason other than Manning had a book on topic and it was a recent edition in a fast evolving ecosystem. It's not like I went, "Ooo, I wonder if Manning has something on this topic, I want if from Manning specifically".

It works. I feel I had to go though some annoying steps to just get the .mobi version downloaded instead of being constantly guided to their in browser reader.

A bit less interesting that I would have hoped. Too much introductory material, and the use cases are fairly mundane. So my Rust knowledge hasn't increased much at all.

Because Manning was who sold the product.

Manning's "only download once" was really annoying (as I switch from work computer to home computer meaning I have to upload the ebook to google drive or someplace so I can view it from either computer instead of just downloading it once for each location).

Good intro into the Rust, maybe a little previous knowledge on systems programming is required but nevertheless great book!

I highly recommend it to anyone new to Rust
Why Trust Verified Reviews?
Verified Reviews are real, authentic reviews collected from actual paying customers, using Shopper Approved's Verified Review Platform. When reviews are Verified by Shopper Approved, you know that you can trust them to make better buying decisions.
Unverified Reviews on the other hand, are reviews collected by Open Review platforms that allow anyone to leave a review, without any validation or proof of purchase. Unfortunately, most reviews you read online are Unverified Reviews, and can't be trusted.
As a consumer, here's how you can tell the difference:
Verified Reviews from Verified Review Platforms like Shopper Approved, have much higher review counts and higher overall Star ratings, because they attempt to collect reviews from every single paying customer.
Unverified Reviews from Open Review Platforms, tend to have much lower review counts and more negative Star ratings, because people with bad experiences are primarily those who leave reviews. This often creates a misleading, inaccurate portrayal of a companies true reputation.
So, when searching for Verified Reviews, look for the name you know you can trust. Shopper Approved.
