My mechanic said that one of the connections did not match the factory original and as a result it took him quite awhile to find the necessary part. For a thirty minute fix, wound up taking four days.

I had the P0216 code/engine light for VP44 injection pump failure, but no symptoms to speak of. Checked fuel pressure pre & post OEM Fuel Canister, and saw overall low pressure (11 idle, down to 4 under load), and sometimes a pressure fluctuation on the post canister side at idle, going into VP44...dirt in fuel canister? Looked all ok on inspection. I called for advice on a FASS DRP lift pump for my 2001 Ram 2500, to replace the Carter...bought the FASS pump, installed per instructions along with new OEM fuel filter, pressures definitely better, @19psi idle pre canister, but still fell to @8 post canister under full load...a really big drop...over 10psi across the OEM filter with new OEM filter installed. Suspected fuel supply problem? So added a sump kit and 1/2 inch fuel supply line, with inline WIX 1/2 in/out fuel filter. Pressure now 18 psi post canister (@21 psi pre canister), and @14psi under full load going into VP44, rock steady pressure, pops right up to max on start-up. And the code cleared itself almost immediately (surprised me), and remains off. Very happy's my truck...runs great needless to say. Also bought the BD Diesel grounding lead for the APPS to prevent erratic lock-up hunting from trans...worked great as well. Unless you have driving symtoms with a P0216 code, no question that checking fuel pressure with two gauges at the same time, pre and post OEM Fuel Canister, is the best way to really know what is going on, to eliminate everything BUT the VP44 itself. I also installed a permanent fuel pressure gauge (post canister), in the truck to monitor, and checked it against an engine installed gauge to make sure they correspond. All good now. Thank you, and I would recommend you guys every time.
